The DAC Brand History
A benchmark in Romania's commercial vehicle industry, redefined for the new era of electrification.
Introduction
DAC is one of the names that defined Romania's commercial vehicle industry. For decades, the brand was associated with robustness, constructive simplicity, and the ability to work in the most difficult operating conditions.
DAC was not built as an image brand, but as a work tool. Vehicles bearing this brand were developed to meet real needs: heavy transport, construction, industry, logistics, and special applications.
Today, DAC returns in a new phase, where the same industrial logic is transposed into electric commercial vehicles, developed for operational performance and economic efficiency.
The origin of an industry
After World War II, Romania entered an accelerated period of industrialization. The development of infrastructure and heavy industry created the need for robust commercial vehicles capable of operating in difficult conditions and on limited infrastructure. In this context, in the early 1970s, the DAC brand was launched and truck production began in Bucharest. DAC vehicles quickly became an essential element of the industrial economy.
Growth and maturity
The period 1975-1985 represented the maturity phase of the DAC brand. Production expanded, and vehicles were widely used in Romania and exported to foreign markets. The range included models for heavy transport, industrial applications, and specialized uses, including military. DAC became a work standard for infrastructure and industry.
Decline and legacy
After 1990, the transition to a market economy and international competition led to a decline in local industry competitiveness, and DAC production was gradually stopped. However, DAC vehicles continued to be used in operation, and the brand remained present in market memory as a symbol of durability and technical simplicity. The DAC legacy is not nostalgic. It is a real base of industrial experience.
DAC today
The relaunch of DAC marks the beginning of a new industrial phase for the Romanian commercial vehicle brand. In 2025, Autovehicule DAC S.A. completes the full acquisition of the DAC brand and initiates its reconstruction on modern industrial foundations, adapted to current European commercial transport requirements.
The DAC identity
The strength of the DAC brand was never in technological complexity or comfort, but in its operating efficiency. DAC vehicles were appreciated for:
This logic defined the brand's identity: a commercial vehicle must be capable of working, enduring, and delivering results every day.
Role in the Romanian economy
For decades, DAC trucks were present in major infrastructure projects, in construction and heavy industry, in agricultural transport, and in military logistics. The brand became a symbol of Romanian industrial capability. For entire generations of operators, DAC was not just a truck, but a work partner.

The new phase is not a symbolic return, but the development of an industrial platform oriented towards the electrification of professional transport.
DAC develops electric vehicles for:
The development model combines local integration, European homologation competence, and building a service and support network to deliver complete solutions ready for real operation.
Continuity through change
Electrification does not change the role of the commercial vehicle. The vehicle must deliver the same performance in operation, under the same conditions and with the same economic responsibility. What changes is the technology.
Energy efficiency
Reduced operating costs
Simplified maintenance
Consistent performance
But it preserves what defined the brand: the ability to work.

DAC, in its new form
DAC is not just a name from the past. It is a real industrial base, adapted to the present.
DAC continues to mean the same thing: commercial vehicles built for real work and concrete results.
